Executioners Song is a bloodied spectacle of fast, rusty metal characterised by a distant and flat eighties production; that said, it doesn't take away from the album's overall merit. Admittedly, the album follows quite a linear line in default thrash metal, song as far as straying very far from the garden path: Never-the-less it is song performed stuff from a youthful and enthusiastic band which shows a vulnerable side to power and glam. There is eleven tracks of my digipak canadian import CD and I never really felt the need to skip any of these tracks once. There is some evidence of slight songwriting inexperience and fluidity, but a mostly brash and semi-violent outcome is the result from this affair. Still, it's not an amazing album by any means: Thank you for your feedback. Razor, we failed to record your vote. See the customer review. Most Helpful Customer Executioner on Amazon. For the most part they were very successful as tunes such as "City Of Damnation", "Escape The Fire", "March Of Death", and "Gatecrasher" aptly demonstrate. In some ways these three tracks are almost the most enjoyable as they sound like the natural evolution which RAZOR's sound would have taken had they not been under such pressure to up the speed. In many interviews RAZOR guitar-maniac Dave Carlo and other members of RAZOR have voiced their displeasure with "Executioner's Song" LP Carlo listing it as his least favorite RAZOR album. Certainly, from his perspective I'm sure that listening to this quickly assembled album brings up all sorts of memories of corners cut, takes rushed, etc. But as a fan and outsider who didn't witness the nasty realities of producing "Executioner's Song" I've always found it to be a HUGELY enjoyable album for many of the reasons Carlo more than likely does not enjoy it. All in all, "Executioner's Song" is a super-fun album filled with catchy tunes, early speed metal stylings, some killer traditional metal grooves, and a youthful exuberance that's infectious. Sure, the mix is a bit muddy at times and due to the fact that the LP is comprised of tunes from different sessions recorded at differing studios the song doesn't have a perfectly cohesive production sound or flow. However, considering how rushed this LP was and the issues raised earlier about the various sessions, it's surprising how well this album does play. In a way the hectic nature of the production is kinda enjoyable, especially once you begin to really know the songs. So in the razor, if you're a RAZOR fan and love "Armed And Dangerous" and "Evil Invaders" but have NOT heard "Executioner's Song" then it's a no-brainer! You HAVE to hear "Executioner's Song"! If however, you are new to RAZOR and are looking to check them out I would suggest starting with '86's legendary "Evil Invaders" LP instead, as it's the peak of RAZOR's 80's material. But without "Executioner's Song" there may not have been an "Evil Invaders" or at least not the legendary album that we all know and love as "Executioner's Song" served its purpose perfectly executioner further widened RAZOR's international fanbase just in time for the unleashing of RAZOR's thrash masterpiece "Evil Invaders" LP in ' It's even better when listened to with headphones after enjoying a few beers and a couple puffs of some high-grade sweet leaf A headbanger's delight indeed. By Deimos - Published on Amazon. Razor is a true thrash metal master band. They have yet to produce one poor album and this album is a testament to how good they truly are. Once again this album will keep your head banging right to the bitter end. Razor are still around but they need to do a full scale return and re-issue their razor catalog including the harder to get masterworks: Shotgun Justice, Custom Killing and Open Hostility. By Daniel Sweigart - Published on Amazon. I'm in love with the vocals, riffs, drums, and everything about this band. They literally blast my face off. Their sound is so unique. Very "blistery", I don't know. That's the best way I can describe it. Sheepdog McLaren's vocals are godly as well. Overall they kill it, on every song. From start to finish they never disappointed me. I highly recommend this to any metal head. By Michael Buschgens - Published on Amazon. By PeaceSells - Published on Amazon. One of the all time classic speed albums that helped form one of the best bands to come out of the thrash metal scene. We start off with one of the best songs of their career "Take This Torch" if you want speed, this is where it is. Dave Carlo is a mad man! Great melody and attitude. The lyrics are fun and the song is catchy. Sheepdog's vocals are relentless on this track. The riff and drum patterns pretty much stay the same the whole way through. The lyrics are probably the darkest on the whole album. Next we have "March Of Death" right from the start it becomes a classic speed metal song. Guitars are blazing fast, bass is in your face, and the drums are going off like guns. Sheepdog starts to growl on this track. And while not as good as the opening track, it is a classic in the world of Razor. The solo executioner really nice on this as well, reminds me of a few Kill 'Em All solos. The vocal work is really nice on this one as well. Hot metal, turning you 'round, Hot metal, burning you down! Hot metal, gets razor your brain, Executioner feeling the pain, from Hot Metal! Its a fun and catchy anthem. Uses some stop and go guitar work as the main riff. But coming off from "Hot Metal" it seems like a let down. The drumming is pretty simple the whole way through. We finish with "The End" which is, at the end. Its a filler obviouslynothing brutal or epic really. But it does give a sense that you just made it through one of the best speed metal albums of all time. And it brings you up to the next album Evil Invaders. Overall, if you like speed metal, you will love this. Get this as well. It isn't the most technical debut, nor the executioner violent, but it brings you a nice introduction of the band Razor and paves the way for one of their bests albums, Evil Invaders. Keith- I have the feeling that understanding the concept is the important thing and what the tutor is looking for when grading.
